Message from Mark Zuckerburg, Facebook CEO

“As of today, 250 million people are using Facebook to stay updated on what’s happening around them and share with the people in their lives. The rapid pace ofour growth is humbling and exciting for us, and it affirms that people everywhere are realizing the power of staying connected to everything they care about on Facebook.

From the beginning, Facebook hasn’t been about building a website. Facebook is about all of the people using it and all of the things that are important to you. The 250 million of you on Facebook today are what gives Facebook life and makes the site meaningful to everyone using it, so we thank you.

Each person who joins makes Facebook better by adding a presence to the site that friends and family can connect with and feel closer to. For us, growing to 250 million users isn’t just an impressive number; it is a mark of how many personal connections all of you have made, and how far we at Facebook have to go to extend the power of connection to the billions of people around the world.

So today as we celebrate our 250 millionth user, we are also continuing to develop Facebook to serve as many people in the world in the most effective way possible. This means reaching out to everyone across the world and making products that serve all of you, wherever you are—whether through Facebook Connect, new mobile products and the other things that we are building. We’re grateful to have all of you with us, and we look forward to helping connect the next quarter billion people on Facebook.”

Facebook Hits 250,000,000 (active) users could reach 300m by year’s end

“In August 2008, Facebook claimed 100 million monthly active users worldwide. By April 2009, the social-networking outfit doubled that number. Today, Facebook tells us it has reached 250 million monthly active users.

Fifty million new users in under four months: Impressive.

“For us, growing to 250 million users isn’t just an impressive number; it is a mark of how many personal connections all of you have made, and how far we at Facebook have to go to extend the power of connection to the billions of people around the world,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a post to the company blog.

If Facebook is able to maintain its growth, it will easily hit 300 million users before the end of the year, perhaps as early as November. And as a recent study from Nielsen Online found, users are spending increasingly more time on the site. Americans spent an average of four hours, 39 minutes and 33 seconds on the site in June–significantly more than any other Web site.

Clearly, Facebook is a lot more than “the flavor of the month,” as News Corp. (NWS) chairman and owner of rival MySpace (and this site) Rupert Murdoch once called it. But how long before it’s able to turn its popularity into profit befitting its user base?”

Facebook is NOT the flavor of the month, for sure…

757 and counting…

Currently, there are 757 major restaurants on Twitter. Twitter is a powerful tool for restaurants, because the food industry constantly changes, Twitter is the best social media site for real-time updates for customers and B2B relations.

Twitter can give instant updates for specials and recipes, while giving a view and taste of a restaurant’s atomosphere and menu.
